Loft-Conversion-Chiswick-Part-Two

For the past 2 months we have been undertaking a loft conversion, as well as a full house renovation and a new garden gym on Dale Street in Chiswick.

The roof is now on the loft and the glass roof lights are in. The scaffolding is coming down in the next 5 days ready for the new sash windows being installed next week. By dropping the 1st floor ceilings a much better head height has been achieved in the loft making it a much more useable space. The loft really is taking shape now.

With the construction of the side return extension on the house the client now has a large bedroom, which steps down into a very impressive size bathroom. There are two bathrooms to finish on this project, which between the tiler and the plumber who will be working on them both, will be achieved. Plastering throughout the whole house is taking place at this very moment, ready for the new ground floor under floor heating being installed on Friday. The client, like many other clients of ours, has requested bespoke furniture to be made in most of the bedrooms and either side of the new log burner in the living room. Bespoke furniture maximises the use of the spaces by tailor making them to the size and specification required. Our skilled carpenters are making a start this week on this project in order to make sure all the elements are finished on time and to the high specification and craftsmanship that both Whitehall Construction and the client expects. 

The gym is near completion with a 2m x 1m glass roof light going into place this morning and bi-fold doors to follow shortly. Being able to add small space to your back garden under permitted development is an excellent way to add a new room and value to your property. Be it for a gym, TV room or just an office space. The space we have built is 4.6m W x 2.4m D x 2.5m H 

We have made the gym from start to finish. The outside of the building is cladded in a beautiful beach wood, which has been treated. The structure is completed with GRP roof with roof light.  It also comes with full electrics and under floor heating so that it really is an extension from the house and doesn’t compromise on comfort.

One of the most popular extensions we do in West London is a side return. We believe its one of the best ways to make use of the redundant space to the side and back of your house on the ground floor, especially with most houses in London being semi detached or terrace properties. This space is not part of your garden but it is more often used for storing bins or old plant pots or kids toys and in general is a waste of space, of which in London space is precious. 

Why not make use of this space? Make it part your home. A side return can make a wonderful family kitchen, dining and living room. Plus, by digging down to the garden level and using large sliding for bi-fold doors, you can also make the garden become a more involved part of your home. Make the extension become just as much an extension of your garden, as it is an extension of the home. We did a beautiful and very large side return extension last year which we finished just before Christmas for a lovely family. It has large 3m high ceilings and 2.8m high bi-fold doors from Original Door Company in Bollo Lane, Chiswick. There are a number of ways you can construct a side return roof which will add fantastic light into the newly built extension, and doing it the right way really does open the room up to make it a fantastic living space drenched in light. (Obviously, subject to the relevant planning permissions or permitted development in your area.) 

One of our current projects we are working on in Chiswick is on Montgomery Road, just off Bollo Lane near the Bollo Pub, which does good pub food in case you wondered! Our client there are a young family whose aim is to create a wonderful family kitchen environment for their young children and also to incorporate the garden on the same level. This requires digging down to create a new floor level, plus building steps to be able to step down from the existing house. Demolition has finished and we are currently completing the brickwork ready for the steels to be put in place on Thursday.
